Werk the Red

LGBT+ weekend at the Red River Gorge

"WERK THE RED," is a queer outdoors community event at Red River Gorge, Kentucky, including rock climbing, camping, hiking, and kayaking. The event is hosted and founded by Climb Beyond the Barrier and is scheduled to take place from October 24th to 27th.

The text explains that the event is about enjoying nature, celebrating queer joy, and giving back to the community through small acts of kindness. It aims to bring the community together to support each other, give back to the land, and include those who may have access or educational gaps preventing them from enjoying the outdoors. The event is open to everyone and includes a weekend of outdoor activities with fellow queers and allies in celebration and remembrance of LGBTQIA2+ history month.

Activities mentioned include climbing in Muir Valley Nature Preserve with available climbing scholarships for those new to the outdoors, hiking in nearby state parks with amazing rock formations, and glow kayaking in caves. Camping will be at Lago Linda's Hideaway, which has plenty of space for everyone. Free tickets are available on Eventbrite, and camping is free thanks to sponsors.
